Telemedicine SEARHC is among the first organizations in Alaska to offer teleradiology, telebehavioral health, telenutrition and telepharmacy services.

Dental Health Aide Therapy SEARHC helped the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium develop the state’s new Dental Health Aide Therapist program, which uses dental assistants with specialized training to provide preventive and routine dental care in remote communities. Alaska’s program is the first in the United States.

Electronic Medical Records SEARHC is one of the first tribal health organizations in the country to begin implementing electronic medical records and online patient management systems.

ABOUT SEARHC

Our Story

SEARHC is a non-profit health consortium which serves the health interests of the residents of Southeast Alaska.

SEARHC was established in 1975 under the provisions of the Indian Self-Determination Act. The intent of this legislation was to have Indian Health Service programs and facilities turned over to tribal management. Our contracting with IHS began in 1976 when we took over management of the Community Health Aides Program. In 1982, we took over operation of the IHS Juneau clinic, now the Ethel Lund Medical Center, and took over operation of Sitka’s Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital in 1986. We are one of the oldest and largest Native-run health organizations in the nation.

The focus of our top strategic themes comprise the “SEARHC View 2018” and assert that by 2018, we desire to be able to objectively demonstrate that SEARHC is:
